FIVE REASONS WE SHOULD WAIT UPON THE LORD
Isaiah 30:18-23, 29
Isaiah 30:1…”Woe to the rebellious children”,
says the Lord, “Who take counsel, but not of Me, and who devise
plans, but now of My Spirit, that they may add sin to sin….”
Isaiah 30:18…Therefore the Lord will wait,
that He may be gracious to you; and therefore He will be exalted,
that he may have mercy on you. For the Lord is a God of justice;
blessed are all those who wait for Him.
Don’t be in a hurry. Don’t say, “we are at the
end of the age, and the Lord is going to come this year, or next
year, or at least by 2004.”
God says, “Let Me work this out. I have not
given you any dates.”
We must learn to wait upon the Lord. You cannot
rush God. He is in no hurry. Why is He not in a hurry? Because He
has all of eternity ahead of Him; and when you and I get in step
with Him, life will be much easier for us down here.
Five Reasons Why We Should Wait Upon The Lord
1. Verse 18 - When we wait upon Him we are
blessed….
Verse 18 is formally the concluding verse of the
prophecy of doom in verses 15-17, but God being a God of justice and
mercy, still wants to bless those who wait upon Him.
2. Verse 19 - When we wait He will answer
us. This means all kinds of people, weeping eyes, hurt and
wounded person, those in adversity and affliction, and also people
who have lost sight of God.
When He hears, He will answer us.
3. Verse 20 - When we wait He will make
Himself known.
Your eyes will behold your Teacher. John 14:26
says He will teach you all things.
4. Verse 23 - When we wait He will grant
the increase…
It will be right and plenteous. But sometimes
waiting also means working. You will get out of it what you put into
it.
5. Verse 29 - When we wait upon the Lord,
we will enter into worship with a different attitude.
Songs, Gladness of Heart. The “Mountain of the
Lord…worship today….”
You can take all five of these reasons and put
them all in the one verse God had Isaiah write: “But those who
wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up
with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall
walk and not faint….
Isaiah 40:31
Colossians 1:10-11
….that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully
pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in
the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His
glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy… |
