THE PRAYER OF JABEZ FOR THE CHURCH
1 Chronicles 4:9-10
Oh that You would bless me (us) indeed!
There are three aspects of this one line of the
prayer.
-
You to a super-natural-person “God”
If you had a mentor, a prayer warrior, showing
and teaching you the things of God, how would you expect him to open
his prayers?
You would want to see that he knows who to go to first…the God of
Israel.
Three people who knew where to go:
1. Hannah
– 1 Samuel 1:10
“And she, greatly distressed, prayed to the Lord
and wept bitterly.”
2. Hezekiah
– 2 Kings20:2-3
His illness and recovery
3. Job
– Job 42:8-9
God accepted Job’s prayers for his friends
These people knew “Who” to go
to.
-
Second aspect – You ask for a super-natural
thing (favor)
Jabez asked God to bless him. Sounds almost
selfish, doesn’t it? It’s not.
Picture yourself in a situation that seems
impossible to you and cry out, “Oh God!, please bless me!”
What that really means is “…..bless me A LOT!”
With the last word, “indeed”, the transformation
begins.
-
This brings about the third aspect:
You ask a lot from the super-natural person.
When we ask for God’s blessing, we’re crying out of the wonderful
goodness that only God has the power ot know about or give to us.
Proverbs 10:22 –
“It is the blessing of the Lord that makes
rich, and He adds no sorrow to it.”
When we seek God’s blessings as the ultimate
value in life,
we are throwing ourselves entirely into the river
of
His will and power and purpose for us….
