AN
EVERLASTING PRAYER
Psalm
4
This psalm divided itself into three parts:
-
A Cry (vs. 1-3)
The psalm begins with a great cry. The refuge of
the people of God in the time of trouble is always prayer. (“Should
Be”!!)
The first thing David realized on his cry, is the
place of his righteousness, (WE should know!)
Distress indicates pressure – the pressures of
life are great. The pressures of life are great today and we need
the encouragement that we find in God’s Word.
Psalm 145:18 says, “The Lord is nigh unto all
them that call upon Him, to all that call upon Him in truth.” (Also
Isaiah 65:24)
(Other scriptures include: Psalm 18:6; 55:16;
86:7)
***The cry of the psalmist in Psalm 4 is the God
be with him.
-
A Correction (vs. 4-5)
The verse says tremble and do not sin (some
Bible versions say, “stand in awe”). We don’t se much trembling
today….
Verse 5, “offer the sacrifices of
righteousness, and trust in the Lord”.
Paul puts it this way in Ephesians 4:26-27…..In
your anger, do not sin; Do not let the sun go down while you are
still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.”
People today call it something else, but in God’s
sight, it’s still sin!
-
A Confidence (vs. 6-8)
Now notice the confidence and assurance of faith.
(V 6)
We need the Lord do lift up the light of His
countenance upon us today. All around David, people were saying
that God was not going to do anything for him. But God did. (v.7)
Gladness…
David found that God was good to him, and God is
good to us today.
That’s why we say,
“God is good all the time, all the time God is
good”!
